Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You

Sasaki is a middle-aged salaryman worn down by work. Two small comforts get him through the routine: smoking and the bright customer service of Yamada, a clerk at the supermarket he visits regularly.

After one especially difficult day, he reaches the store too late to see Yamada. As he lingers outside, a strikingly dressed woman named Tayama calls to him and tells him he can smoke behind the supermarket. Their conversations in the rear smoking area become a recurring part of Sasaki’s life.

The early episodes build their relationship through small, everyday incidents — workplace anxiety, gifts, learning to use a smartphone, and store-staff interactions. The tone blends adult slice-of-life comedy with quiet interpersonal observation rather than high-stakes plot.
